이번에 발표된 미국 심장학 저널(American Journal of Cardiology)에 의하면 만성신장질환을 앓고 있는 환자들의 C-반응성 단백질(C-Reactive)과 신장기능(Renal Function)에 대한 로수바스타틴 효능 연구에서 크레스토 10mg 복용으로 긍정적인 항염증과 잠재적인 신장보호 효과를 함께 나타낼 수 있는 것으로 알려지고 졌다.
로수바스타틴을 복용한 환자 군에서는 LDL 콜레스테롤 수치가 기준 점에서 -43%로 내려간 반면 로수바스타틴을 복용하지 않은 그룹에서는 7%정도 유의적 차이를 보인 것으로 나타났다.
또 C-반응성 단백질 (hs-CRP) 수치에서도 로수바스타틴 복용그룹에서는 기준 점에서 47가 감소된 반면 복용하지 않은 그룹에서는 7%의 수치적 결과를 보여 큰 차이를 보였다고 회사측은 소개했다.
심장보호센터(Centre for Heart Disease Prevention)의 Neil F．Gordon 박사는 "만성신장질환자를 대상으로 한 세밀한 관찰결과 크레스토 복용 군에서 어떠한 신장 기능 저하 현상도 발견할 수 없었던 것은 물론 오히려 기능 향상이 확인할 수 있었다"고 말했다．
이와 관련 아스트라제네카 임상연구디렉터 Jonathan Sorof 박사는 "최근 임상연구들을 보면 스타틴 계열의 치료제들이 순응도가 뛰어날 뿐만 아니라 콜레스테롤 조절효과 외에도 신장 기능도 향상시키는 것을 알 수 있다"며 "향후 크레스토와 신장질환과의 관계에 대한 연구를 진행할 계획"이라고 밝혔다

The study, Effect of Rosuvastatin on C-Reactive Protein and Renal Function in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease, shows that CRESTOR 10 mg has favourable anti-inflammatory effects in patients with chronic kidney disease and is supportive of potential accompanying renoprotective benefits.)
(In contrast to patients not receiving rosuvastatin, those patients receiving rosuvastatin had significantly greater improvements from baseline in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (-43% versus 7%, p<0.001) and hs-CRP (-47%, versus 7%; p<0.001).)
